Simply Hearted Pendant

This 925 Silver Heart pendant on a leather cord is simple & sweet on its own. But it is also Lovely with any other pendant, e.g. with this bead pendant with Rose Quarz, known as 'the Stone of Love', and pink Chrysoberyl.

This will bring Ms. C (even more) Love & Luck !

Inspiration of the day: Sounds of Gotye

The way he plays with sounds is just beautiful. His fascination is very inspiring. He reminds me of my old Audio teacher, Kees, an other Audiophile who made me more aware of our everyday life's sounds.

Neo Vintage Pendant Makeover

One broken pendant and a piece of necklace from the 60’s- 70’s. My mother no longer wore them, but as a girl I liked the colours so much that I kept them in my little box with my other 'treasures'.
I like green (Aventurine) and Cat's eye/ Chrysoberyl always triggers me. I kept them there for almost 3 decades. Today I gave them a second life and turned them into a neo-vintage pendant. It wears beautifully on a long oxidised silver chain necklace, which belonged to my grandmother Saar.

It was a rainy, cold and grey Sunday yesterday.
"Where's the Summer?", I thought as I watched
the rain beating against the window.
I needed to make this collage to remind me
it is indeed Summer in the Netherlands.
This colour always brightens the world in a nano-sec.
PS.These are all SYLK©-made pieces.

Findings: earring backs

Hardly visible, but essential: earring backs.

I need plastic earring backs for the French hooks I use. When earrings are a bit heavier they tend to fall out. Some people are kneeling on the floor to find their contact lenses and others are looking for their earrings... ;-)
I also need these for the 925 Silver earring studs I have, because the 'butterfly' backs don't function well.

I found 2 kinds of plastic backs I like:
- smaller ones (bullet, flower, squares)
- and broader ones (clutches with silver or gold plated centers).

My first Dawanda customer

Today a customer knocked on my Dawanda -shop door
and purchased this Cobra/snake pendant.
She is my very first Dawanda-customer,
so I decided to celebrate this kick-off by making a piece for her.
Something summery, but also something that she would like. This was very challenging as I don’t know her at all IRL.
But what I did know was that she likes black, leather & snake,
 =casual/ fun/ no-nonsense.
And 925 Sterling Silver for style & durability.
Her enthusiastic reply on my order-confirmation had a light & ‘sparkly’ tone, which would be ‘summery’ in my translation.
I love Turquoise for the summer,
it has the colour of the infinite Sky & Ocean.
White Pearl for elegance & purity and Black Pearl adds mystery to it.
A little green Turquoise chip to finish the charm.
All these free shaped semiprecious stones give the charm some attitude.
I hope she’ll like it.

Thanks M'inda and have a great summer!
Tschüss!

Yoga mat bag DIY tutorial

I had been wanting a yoga mat bag for quite awhile, but I couldn't find one I liked enough. So 8 months ago when I arrived in Chiang Mai again I decided to make my own, yet it was only 2 weeks ago I found the fabric I loved and started making it. As I don't own a sewing machine I first did all the prepwork myself (cutting, pinning, sewing by hand (!) and then I went to the seamstress. The first one I went to looked a bit worried. The second one smiled. I too thought it was an easy job because of the prepwork I had done.

I read the tutorial on BoredandCrafty for the basic steps and I adjusted a few things. I chose for a single layered bag, because the fabric is thick and strong enough. I also made a slit on top, so it is easier to slide in the yoga mat in the bag and I used a cord lock to close the bag. I also wanted an adjustable strap.
I thought about a double zippered bag (see pic below) because it's very practical, but I didn't want to use too much metal. Plus I foresaw my long hair tangled in the zippers (when carrying the bag). And the hassle when zippers need to be fixed or scratches on my mat... doom thinking has its benefits ;-) An extra little pocket for a (membership, parking) card or coins would have added a bit of convenience, but then... I always have my other bag for gum, wallet, water etc.
*The SIMPLER The BETTER!*
I love this bag, it's like an Eastern painting

Brand: Jfit

Making a yoga mat bag from old pants is such a great idea and so much easier to make, not to forget eco-friendly. Cargo pants are perfect for this as it already has pockets. Check this out.

Last week a stranger at the airport complimented me on my bag, he said it looked like a ... bag (he named a brand, Lemon Tree?) My smile couldn't have been bigger...

PS: After finishing this post I found Serita's yoga mat bag tutorial on Youtube (timeframe 0:35), and I really like the way she made the pocket.

Impermanence

Creamwhite Freshwaterpearls, Turquoise dyed Howlite,
Chrysoberyl cateye & 925 Silver.
Matching bracelet with 925 Silver Ohm sign

May 2011 was a memorable month for Ms. J. She turned ... oh my, I forgot ;-), but I remember a figure that reminds us (again) of our passing existence in this world. We no longer think in terms of "later-in-the-future-when-I've-grown-up", but we start to realise we already are floating on this "later in the future". And have we grown up...? Well, let's skip this one, shall we...? ;-)  We just don't have the eternal life (and I thank the Buddha and gods for this) and we are more and more aware of the impermanence of our being on planet Earth. It's a beautiful phase... We know ourselves better than before (if we're lucky...) and as time and energy has become something more limited, and therefore precious, we want to spend it more carefully, more meaningfully.

For this occasion I made a pair of earrings and a bracelet for Ms. J.
When you imagine a circle around the earring, you'll see a Peace sign.
The matching bracelet has an Ohm sign in the middle. It has a broad meaning in Sanskrit, but the part I thought of when making it was the part of the Universal "All", "Everything": Everything from the past, the present and the future.

I wish Miss J. love, laughter and lots of light!
